My Trip to Labor and Delivery

So everything was going great yesterday. The little guy was very active, I was actually WORKING at work (meaning that I was actually given something to do), and I was having a good day. Then, right before my co-worker Jill had to leave, I went to the bathroom and saw that I was spotting a little bit. I decided to wait until the end of my work day, I only had 40 minutes left or so, and then I'd call the on-call Midwife.
I called in and informed her of what I saw. Then she asked me about contractions...

"No, I haven't been experiencing any contractions, just the little guy pushing me all day, sometimes to the point of actually having to breath through it. But no contractions that I'm aware of."
"Well, how often has this happened and for how long?"
"He maybe does it about 4 times an hour. Though he doesn't do it EVERY hour. And it lasts for less then a minute. I haven't really been paying too much attention to it just because it feels like he's just pushing on me trying to stretch and get more room."
"It sounds like you're having contractions so I'm going to send you to the maternity ward at Woodwinds. I'll let the midwife know that you'll be coming in."
"Ok, thank you." (me sounding kind of skeptical, I mean, if I was having contractions I think I would know it. Plus it just feels like my little guy is just pushing me trying to get more room.)

So I called Dustin, who was home already in PJ's, and told him what was up. Went home real quick to put on my jeans instead of work pants, wash my stinky feet (yes I just admitted that my feet stink, but its only because of my nylons and work shoes) and then pick up Dustin.

When we got to the hospital we had issues finding a spot to park by the ER area (that's where we needed to enter) but Dustin squished the Truck into a spot. Everyone was very nice, gave great directions, and since it was our first time there we didn't know exactly what to do. So when you are going up to the Maternity Ward you need to be buzzed in, well we didn't know how to do that. The security guy behind the desk saw that we needed in and just let us in...right as we found the phone to ring him to get in. Got to the desk, filled out one piece of paper, had them copy my insurance card (since the information they have is for my next years insurance) and was brought to my room. EASY-PEASY!

I think the best part was being able to hear my little guy's heart beat and movements from 6:00pm until 9:00pm. Turns out I WAS having contractions...about every 12 minutes, most of which I never felt. Again, this is very strange to me. They were just little contractions so that might be the reason. Apparently I need to drink more water and eat more protein, and that was it. They did a few tests and just had me lay there waiting for contractions with the bands on my tummy. After three HUGE glasses of water and a couple hours the contractions stopped on their own (not that I would have known).

Dustin and I left and went to Applebee's for a LATE dinner. Then we froze our behinds off walking back to the Truck, went home, and fell right to sleep. Then I had to get up and go pee 3 times during the night. I guess I have to get used to that part, instead of just getting up once in the middle of the night, it will be much more now I'm sure.

So today on my way to work I stopped off at Cub and got some snacks with protein in them:
Mini bags of popcorn
Peanuts
Cashews
Trail mix
Apples (with peanut butter)
Graham Crackers (with Peanut Butter)
Ritz Crackers (with Peanut Butter)
English Muffins (with Peanut Butter)

If you have any idea of other SNACKY things I can have that have lots of protein in it please let me know. I need ideas for snacks at work that are high in protein.

Then I have Dustin's big 'Bubba Keg 52' cup with me at work filled with water and ice. My goal is to drink two of these at work and at least one at home.

Then when I got in and thought that my boss might be in too, I stopped by his desk and asked his permission to be able to eat at the desk (my snacky items) and then if Jill (my co-worker) isn't around if I can still go to the bathroom. Yes, I had to ask to go to the bathroom. He said yes when i explained it all to him.

So no worries all is well and I'm making sure to take all the measures needed to make this little guy 'cook' for the next 9 1/2 weeks. That's right only 9 1/2 weeks left. And I'm SO glad that I chose Woodwinds for my hospital to deliver at...They were GREAT. My only complaint is the carolers that came through last night. Some didn't know how to sing, and I really don't want to be disturbed when I'm laying there tired and hungry and trying to feel if I'm having contractions. I just think of how it would have been if I was trying to 'push' and hear that...

Test results:
Test for preterm labor - came back negative
Cervix - closed, thick and high
