I thought it might be nice for everyone to see the progress that Dustin and I have made so far and the preparations for our little guy.
Since this summer Dustin has been clearing out the spare bedroom, once his Lego Room and our Office, to make it into our little guys room. Yes, that’s right; Dustin had his own Lego Room. He loves Lego's and I’ve always said that it’s a hobby that I really don’t mind…there are worse things that he could do, plus this one is just so cute – oh sorry, I mean manly.
This left a lot of Lego’s and our office stuff without a home. So we re-arranged our bedroom a little and adapted. For the Lego’s Dustin packed them all up into his blue Lego tubs (still separated into colors) from the bins that he bought from Menards when the store upgraded to new nuts and bolts bins. With these bins he separated all of his Lego’s out into colors and brick sizes. Well the bins are GONE…We SOLD them. Dustin was so sad, but we didn’t have any room for them and couldn’t keep them. At least he understood and he always says he’s giving these things up for a good cause.
Dustin and I switched closets. I used to have the bigger of the two. Now Dustin has it as he keeps much of the stuff that was in his Lego room in the closet as well…including all of the Lego Tubs.
As for the office supplies- We had to sell our nice corner desk that had a bunch of storage in it and settle for a plain-ol’-desk. This also took some bedroom rearranging, as we put the desk into the corner where my book case was and where we would always put our laundry baskets of clean clothes (since we were very bad and never put our clothes away…but we’re starting to get better in that area). Then we put up shelves to help with storage and then got rid of a bunch of stuff, or at least I think so since Dustin is the one that did the organizing of the desk, and he tends to be on the Pack Rat side of things. I admit, he is getting better about that, I just want to see MORE go, but I don’t want to push it. (I’ll take a picture of the bedroom and closet to show you later.)
We’ve also gone ahead and sold several different things in order to make room and get the ‘Pack Rattyness’ gone. We sold, as previously mentioned, the bins Dustin used for Lego’s, the Corner Desk, also Dustin’s old floor speakers with the custom built Oak stands he made for them, my porcelain dolls that have been in storage since Dustin moved in, and even tools that Dustin had never used but had for years.
Once the little guys room (not closet, that still has stuff in it) was cleaned out we were ready for paint. We just didn’t know what color. After the shower that Deb and Doe threw for me (Dustin’s mom and aunt, and a joint shower with Doe’s daughter Katie) in early November, Dustin really got a look at the bedding that we picked out for Baby S and fell in love with the color scheme…Blue, Brown, and White. So we went out on the morning of November 14th and got some blue paint to match the bedding. When we got home Dustin got to work right away on setting up and doing the painting. I wasn’t allowed to help per the midwife’s orders.

Then on Sunday we set up the crib and dresser…or should I say that Dustin set up the crib and dresser. We would have been done SO MUCH SOONER with it, but we had to make a trip to Target halfway through getting the crib together. The crib is solid wood, but the bars of the crib have the paper stuff on it…yeah, I don’t know what it’s called. Anyway, that stuff was starting to come off, it must have been damaged during manufacturing. So we brought that piece back to Rainbow and had them open up another box and give us one from that one. (I would have just disassembled the whole crib, that we had halfway together, and brought it all back in the box, but Dustin said that they should just defect out another box like Menards does.) It took us a while at Target, but we finally got home and got the crib together. After that Dustin set right to work with the dresser. While he was doing this I started doing the Baby S’s laundry and bedding. This way I could get some clothes (thanks again Lisa for some of the hand-me-downs) in his dresser and get his bed made…and get the kitties used to the new sent of Dreft. It’s here with the furniture that the Brown comes in, as it is an espresso type of color.

Currently Dustin has the middle of Baby S’s room covered in a drop cloth and is using it to paint shelves for his room white. Now I just need to get some Curtains for his room so he won’t me woken up by the light during his nap times. I’m thinking of looking for either brown Curtains or brown and white Curtains, I’m not sure yet. Because of this project that Dustin has going though, our living room is such a mess. We just have all of the presents that we got for our shower and anything that we’ve bought for the little guy all piled in the living room, as neatly as possible, but still in the living room. I’ll be glad when Dustin gets the shelves up and the painting stuff done so I can get to work on everything else in his room.
On Black Friday I went out and bought Baby S’s Travel System from Target with the gift cards that we got from my first shower, mentioned above. Now we know FOR SURE that we have his stroller and, more importantly, his car seat. Then I popped over to Kohl’s to see what they might have on sale for him as well since I had some store credit for there left over from the wedding in August. Sure enough, even though they didn’t have it advertised, they had much of their baby clothing on sale. Most of it was 50% off or more sometimes. Now, I LOVE deals, but this was finaminal!! I had about $50 in store credit, give or take a little. In the end I only had to pay $3.16 from our bank account and I got 7 outfits and some socks for him. That was just A-M-A-Z-I-N-G to me and I was SO proud of myself. And please if you see any good deals on baby clothes, please let me know, we have hardly any clothes for this little guy yet.
Food – I’ve started trying to get some good ideas of foods to make and freeze for after this guy comes. For the most part family and friends have been saying soup…well that’s great, but you can only eat so much soup. Currently I have 2 things of Sloppy Joe's made, packaged, and in the freezer, but that’s it. So I found this blog of another pregnant woman here in Minnesota that has 41 meals (currently) made and frozen in her freezer for after her little guy arrives. Best yet, she gives recipes of several of these meals. Even though I haven’t made any of the meals yet, I’m already so grateful to her. I was starting to think that we would just be eating soup for a month or more, but now I know we will have some delicious dishes. I’ll keep you updated on this area as well, and if you have any suggestions…PLEASE let me know!!
